Which
Brand is the Best?
Leonard has been involved in HVAC/R work since
1974 and is a perpetual student of this trade, constantly studying all aspects
of this technology, and is fascinated by the science behind it.
He is honest to a fault, and always tries to
treat his customers as he would like to be treated.
His wife refers to him as “Honest Abe”. He loves her dearly but has never heeded her
advice about how much he should be charging his customers, because he likes to
remain competitive.
He really likes people and it shows.
He spends his spare time studying mechanical and
science related things.
Don’t be surprised if the next time you see him,
he’s typed in several pages of notes with Physics calculations about your
system. He loves those formulas. If you ask him a question, and don’t have a
lot of time for the “long answer”, be sure to ask him for the short one. He has a knack for making you understand
things though.
Here are some “Leonardisms”:
A good mechanic can fix anything, but a great
mechanic finds the cause for the problem, and often sees it coming beforehand.
People who think HVAC/R service and installation
is a no-brainer often end up being right, because they end up selecting someone
with no brain to do the work.
If you don’t have business integrity, you don’t
have very much.
A technician’s punctuality is always appreciated
by his customers. Customers have
schedules too.
If your agenda is sales only, you should have a
sales only job.
Unhappy customers don’t refer you to others. More referrals = less advertising expense.
It’s nice to see a customer once in a while, but
not on a regular repair basis.
Pricing should not be based on the
neighborhood. An hour is an hour.
Calling a large repair company is like playing
Russian roulette. You never know who
they’re going to send.
Repairmen come in all sizes, as does their level
of ability.
There are 2 kinds of technicians: Those who think
they know enough and those who know they don’t.
It’s hard to break the law and get away with
it. And it’s even harder to break the
laws of science and get away with it.
